What is CARB Clean Truck Check?

A CARB Clean Truck Check is a state-mandated inspection that verifies key engine and emissions components are functioning properly and in compliance with California Air Resources Board (CARB) regulations. This check ensures your truck meets environmental standards to reduce air pollution and maintain optimal performance. Once the test is completed, you'll receive a report confirming whether your truck meets CARB standards, allowing you to proceed with your DMV registration renewal hassle-free.

Please read below the process of the new CARB Clean Truck Check Requirements

  1. Check Vehicle Eligibility
The CARB Clean Truck Check applies to diesel trucks with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 14,001 lbs or more, including trucks used for business or personal purposes.

  2. Sign Up for the CARB Portal & Pay the Fee
Before your inspection, you must sign up for the CARB Clean Truck Check portal and pay the required fee. This step is necessary to ensure your vehicle is registered for testing.

  3. Prior To Scheduling
Please ensure that the check engine light is not illuminated, and that the Emission Control Label on the engine is present and legible. A check engine light on, and a missing or illegible ECL will result in a failure.

  4. Schedule Your Appointment
Once you're signed up, book your Clean Truck Check appointment with Mac Auto Repair. We’ll take care of everything from there!

  5. Perform Clean Truck Check
We’ll inspect key engine and emissions components, including the exhaust system, filters and labels, to make sure everything is working properly and meets California Air Resources Board (CARB) standards.

  6. Receive Your Report
After the inspection, you'll receive a report confirming whether your truck meets CARB standards. If it passes, you'll be ready to proceed with your DMV registration renewal.

  7. Next Steps
If your truck passes, you can complete your DMV registration. If it doesn’t pass, we’ll let you know what repairs are needed to bring your truck into compliance.
